baby things?

Like other people...family members and friends?  I want to have all the necessities ready for baby by 34/35 weeks (thats about the time that baby could come home with us from the hospital if I go into labour early)  but we aren't having a shower (no family where we live) and my work shower is after the baby comes...so when do people just start buying for fun?

hard to say if you're not having a shower. People may want to wait until after the baby is born in that case, so they get something gender specific. I could see that happening.
When I had showers no one threw them for me until I was about 36-37 weeks. Which was upsetting to me with Eli, I didn't know about it and I was trying so hard to scrape together money for big stuff and I just didn't have it. I was so stressed. Surprise parties are evil lol So no one gave me anything until around that time, or after baby was born.
But your situation is a tad different...I hope they would by around 30 weeks. That's probably when I would do it. We're getting Eric's sister a crib but I wont order it for awhile, I'll wait til she's at least 25 weeks before I order it, and I'll have it shipped right to her house.

Why don't you do an internet shower?  I will do one for you if you don't want to do it yourself. It makes me sad to see you all alone for this (even though you aren't, but so far away).  hugs

Heather, I really hope around 30 weeks.  Its really hard because I am trying to spread out our shopping over the next few months so we don't spend all at once, but I know its a bit early for people to be buying now.  I have a lot of friends I have sent baby things to when they were expecting, and I really don't expect it in return, but I am hopeful.

Carrie, you are too sweet!  I am having a shower, its just after sprout is here (which is not very helpful for getting the necessities) so I will be well taken care of, its just times like these where I really regret having to have moved so far away from home, Trev feels so bad when I feel like this, because he is the reason we moved away, he has a career that he just can't have back home.  I am lucky to have met great people in all of you, and have such amazing supportive co-workers, otherwise I wouldn't have survived the loneliness of moving away from home.

I think it is hard to say when you will get things. I think that I would get the necessities for your self whenever you need to spend the money or feel good about it. But I would keep your receipts and not open the things that you don't need to. That way you can return things if someone buys you something you got yourself. Also it is sometimes hard to do but I would ask for specific things from the people that you can ask to help get what you really need.

Most of the stuff I got from friends and customers I got at the very end and then when they came to see us in the hospital.

It really depends on your family and friends..

I think people started to get me things from 6 months on.. it was just my mom and my FIL.. I had a shower with Kailynn from my BFF.. I am throwing her a shower next Friday..
