So, her baby is in position, she was due the 13th (thankfully her doctor says not to be worried until the 27th...her next appointment is then, and they have an induction penciled in for that day if there are no signs of labor).  Any tips to help kickstart things?  Her doctor has told her already to have plenty of sex (and make sure she finishes!) to rock the boat, and she's eating plenty of spicy food...I told her that nipple stimulation (even including using a breast pump) can increase oxytocin and stimulate labor...anything else?

Thanks,
Kate

I think you've got the basics covered. Unfortunately, there's nothing really you can do if you're body isn't ready to go into labor it won't. I hope she has her baby soon, though!! Being over due sucks!

Thanks...she knows the baby will come on his/her own time, but is hoping that her more gentle nudges work better than an induction!  I said I'd ask the knowledgeable ladies here :)

Don't try castor oil.  My Cousin did and was very disappointed.   I can't think of any other tips.  I'll keep thinking.

Its true that nothing will help *if* her body isn't ready.  But that doesn't mean her body isn't ready.  Sex, nipple stimulation, spicy food, can all help jumpstart things if her body is ready to get it done!

The castor oil is awful and not recommended much anymore...the idea behind that though it the smooth muscle contractions of the bowel help get the smooth muscle of the uterus going...so that where the spicy food comes in too.  Even a massage (done properly) can help get things going.

Has she had a stretch and sweep?
Here you can ask for one any time after 40 weeks (and sometimes if you get a kind midwife they'll do one at 38-39w).  If you're ready to go, it can be just the bit of help you need.

All is well--no induction, vaginal birth yesterday!  Rumor has it that she told her husband about the nipple stimulation and he "ran with it", lol.  Adorable, healthy little baby girl.

Thanks everyone!
