Please keep "fair use" in mind when quoting articles here.  Wikipedia explanation of fair use

When directing others to read an article, use a link and a small (maybe a few sentences) quote if you want to provide a "teaser". Don't copy and paste the whole article or substantial portions of any referenced work. Make sure that if you do quote, you indicate it as such. You can do that by using quote marks or by highlighting the text and clicking the little quote icon on the formatting bar. Or you can use BB code and type [ quote ] at the beginning and [ / quote ] at the end, minus the spaces I included.

If you're still fuzzy on copyright guidelines, this article has a great explanation about some myths surrounding copyright law: http://www.templetons.com/brad/copymyths.html

Copyright law also applies to photos and videos, unless the item has a link there specifically for sharing (such as photobucket, youtube or icanhascheezburger)   Posting other people's pictures using their link by rightclicking and grabbing the photo location (called "hotlinking") is considered bandwidth theft - and other people's photographs are considered copyright.

It also applies to poems and essays that are marked as "author unknown".  It's still somebody else's work. Tweets, facebook posts, email exchanges, etc. are copyright protected as well.

Posts that violate these guidelines will be removed.  If you are in doubt as to whether something is OK, please contact a staff member BEFORE posting it.
